Our orthodontic team is a fun-loving group with many years of experience providing gentle, advanced care to our community. Three of our team members just reached 15 years of employment with Rick Burns Orthodontics! Their loyalty and dedication to the practice and our patients means the world to Dr. Burns.
We recognize that all our patients are unique and deserve to receive orthodontic care that reflects their individual needs. Our experienced and talented team is committed to working with you and your family to create a comfortable, stress-free, and rewarding orthodontic experience every time you visit our practice.
Treatment Coordinator / Office Manager
Four days after graduating high school I started working for my family dentist, Dr. Shonk. I was trained on the job to be a dental assistant and knew my first day working that I loved dentistry. In 1989, I graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry with an associate’s degree in dental hygiene. That’s also where I met Rick! There’s a lot to love about working with him, and even though I may be biased, his compassion is plain for all to see. He is excellent at what he does and has a high ethical standard. I am proud to work alongside him and the rest of our team every day!
Rick and I both have a passion for travel and especially adventure travel. At Christmas, we hiked 110 miles through Patagonia and I loved every minute. I like to play tennis, run, and read. We have two cats and two dogs. I have been proud to serve on the board of the Elkhart Samaritan Center for six years. I feel it is important to give back to the community and I am looking forward to my next community project!
I love being part of a wonderful orthodontic practice, where we create beautiful smiles for friends. I joined Dr. Burns and the team in 2001 and feel I’ve found a second family. It’s fun to spend my days helping people understand treatment, learn about orthodontics, and see their excitement at getting a new smile! I handle patient accounts and insurance matters. Working with patients and parents, I make sure they get the most from their benefits!
When not working, I love being with my son: we spend most of our time outdoors. We enjoy sports, hiking, biking, and camping. Our family includes a rescue dog, four rescue cats, and a horse.
Orthodontic Assistant/Invisalign Coordinator
The best part of my work is our patients! Each one is unique and I love getting to know them. It’s amazing to watch a patient's personality blossom as they see their smile change. Watching them gain self-confidence is the most incredible thing. I’ve been part of the team since 2004 and love every day with Dr. Burns and my teammates. I am our patient-flow coordinator, Invisalign® coordinator, Carriere™ specialist, and I provide comic relief, too!
My wonderful husband Sean and I have a daughter, Delani, who’s the center of our world. We also have an adopted Staffordshire bull terrier, Cooper, and a bearded dragon, Echo. I’m addicted to organizing, an avid reader, total movie geek, and love time with my family.
I enjoy watching our patients transform as their smile improves. They walk taller, make eye contact, and start to smile willingly. The day they finish treatment, they can’t stop looking in the mirror and grinning! I started working with Dr. Burns when he began the practice, took some time away, and returned in 2012. Working in our onsite lab, I craft custom retainers, bonded retainers, and night guards. I also send and receive all outside lab work.
My wonderful husband and I have been married more than 40 years. We have three children, five amazing grandchildren, and a dog, Vegas. I enjoy being outside, traveling, and family gatherings where I cook for others.
Treatment Coordinator / Orthodontic Assistant
I love meeting people from different walks of life and learning who they are. Each patient has his or her own orthodontic needs, and Dr. Burns is attentive to that. He creates smiles that are functional, healthy, and beautiful! I’ve been here since 2000 and treasure the friendships I’ve made. I welcome new patients, teach them about orthodontics, and walk them through their treatment plan. I also assist Dr. Burns with patients’ appliance maintenance.
I have two beautiful children: Kaleb is my son and Kamryn is my daughter. They are the joys of my life. I am active in my church and our community. While I love all music, my favorite is country. I enjoy being outside with my family and love traveling south.
I’ve been here since 2009 and enjoy being part of a great team that helps patients achieve smiles they love. It’s incredible to see a patient grow during treatment. Everyone becomes happier and more outgoing and starts sharing a smile! When we remove their braces and they see their finished smile, we’re cheering with them. I provide chairside assistance, helping Dr. Burns with bonding brackets, changing wires, and —best of all —removing brackets!
I’m getting married in the summer of 2016 and I have a new grandson on the way! I share my life with two lab-mix dogs and my husband-to-be. We enjoy walking and spending time together.
Head Orthodontic Assistant
I like meeting new people and love seeing the different kids: some of them are schoolmates of my own children who attend ECA! My coworkers and Dr. Burns have become my extended family. I’ve been here since 2002, starting right after I graduated high school, and have helped develop so many wonderful smiles. I bond brackets, deliver expanders and Herbst appliances, and assist Dr. Burns with procedures. I also order supplies and meet with sales reps.
My husband Matt and I have four red-headed children, who are very rambunctious: the total opposite of Matt and me. We enjoy time together outside, especially at the park or on our bikes. We also enjoy our regular movie and popcorn Friday nights. I tend to be quiet, though I love singing in church.
I attended the dental health program at EACC where I completed rotations at several dental offices in the area as a chairside assistant. After graduating, I worked as a chairside assistant for 14 years, and joined Dr. Burns’ team in 2016 as a patient coordinator. I am thrilled to be working in the exciting world of orthodontics! I love meeting and interacting with our patients. It is exciting to see the progress they’ve made, and to see their beautiful smiles when they’ve completed treatment.
I have been happily married to my husband for nine years, and we have two boys. I am involved in my sons’ soccer, flag football, and Cub Scouts. I love being around family, spending time outdoors, and working in my yard and garden.
